You may be the type who has had your costume planned since the summer. Or has Halloween not even crossed your mind? If you are in the latter group, fear not! Follow along, learn how to play with these looks, and adapt them for your own Halloween costume.  

This week, we are getting ready for spooky season with Natalia Lymarenko (@Natalia.lyma_), who's showing us how to recreate her half-up, half-down space buns and enviable mermaid hair with BELLAMI Silk Seam™ hair extensions. Follow along, learn how to play with these looks, and adapt them for your own Halloween costume.  

SPACE BUNS 

For starters, space buns are a fun, versatile hairstyle that can be used to create a few different costumes. Natalia styled this festival look which is perfect for a Halloween concert or dressing up as a raver or alien. 

In fact, you can be a giraffe or lion by changing your outfit and trading the rhinestones for gold leaf or glitter! Omit the sparkle altogether and straighten your hair for Sailor Moon. Or, ditch the half-up, half-down look and go full-space buns. Add some white face makeup and (VERY) smoky eyes, and voila, you're a panda! The possibilities are as endless as your creativity—or makeup artistry allows.  

How to Create Space Buns: 

STEP 1: Begin by brushing through your hair and extensions with the BELLAMI Boar Brush.

STEP 2: Clip in your hair extensions. Natalia is wearing the BELLAMI Silk Seam 22" Ash Bronde/Strawberry Blonde Ombré hair extensions for added length and volume.

STEP 3: Apply some Flawless Blend leave-in to blend your natural hair with your extensions and add shine. 

STEP 4: Starting above the ears, section off the top half of your hair, creating a middle part and framing your face with the two front pieces.

STEP 5: Make a ponytail on each side and secure them. Twist each ponytail and wrap it around the base to create buns, securing them with bobby pins.

STEP 6: Use the BELLAMI 1.5 inch Curling Iron to curl the remaining hair and give it some movement.

STEP 7: Decorate your hair with the rhinestones. Place them across the front section of your hair, making your way toward the buns. Then, highlight your part with a row of tiny rhinestones. 

STEP 6:  Finish the look by placing tiny rhinestones from the inner corner of your eye along your bottom lash line, extending it like eyeliner.

MERMAID WAVES

To be honest, this style looks so good; we will be wearing our hair wavy like this whether dressed as a sea princess or not! But we love Natalia’s rendition of a mermaid complete with a bohemian braid, aqua rhinestones and, of course—the crown.

The BELLAMI Deep Waver will give you mermaid hair without a plunge into the ocean, and this style is a way to enhance (not fight!) any natural texture while blending natural hair with extensions. 

How to Create Mermaid Hair: 

Step 1: Start by brushing through your hair and clipping in your extensions. Natalia is wearing the BELLAMI Silk Seam 24" Ash Brown hair extensions to add mermaid-like length and fullness. 

Step 2: Apply a heat protectant like Total Defense Spray and horizontally section the hair by each row of extensions. This will make it easier to ensure you don’t miss any spots.

Step 3: Use the BELLAMI Deep Waver to create mermaid waves. Starting near the root, place a 1-2" section of dry hair between the barrels and lightly clamp hair in place for 5-10 seconds before releasing.

Step 4: Repeat this process, moving slowly toward the end of the section. Continue section by section, until all are complete.

Step 5: Optionally, braid a small section of your hair. You create as many braids as you’d like and adorn them with self-adhesive rhinestones. 

Step 6: Place a few more rhinestones along your collarbone and at the inner corner of your eyes for that extra sparkle.
